Birthday Greetings for my Husband's first love

Using Beate's weekend sketch challenge (WSC), I made a card for my MIL's (mother in law) birthday. She does not like girly flowery stuff at all--I don't think it is true that husbands marry someone just like their mamas!
Here is the sketch:

The half circle in the corner of my card is Always Artichoke run through the Big Shot with a Cuttlebug embossing folder. Then, I used a sponge to dab a little bit of Whisper White craft ink over the embossed flowers so that they are more noticeable.

I used my scallop edge border punch to put a scallop on the striped Always Artichoke DP. With the layer of Barely Banana behind it, it almost looks like the Barely Banana is the one with the scallop edge and is laying on top of the striped paper. Even in real life it looks like that. I thought that was interesting how the yellow pops out like that.

I'm not crazy about the large oval in the upper right corner. To me, it seems to be a little over powering and large for the daintiness of the silhouette flowers (maybe it is a subconscious slip referring to my daintiness and the large and overpowering personality of my MIL?? ha ha just kidding---I really do like her and we get along most of the time). But, I like the phrase and they both came together in the same stamp set (Upsy Daisy).

I'm off for now--I'll be back Monday.

She will love this . . . very classic. You are such a cutie . . . I was expecting a mustache!

Hugs,

Mary
